The 4ArtPreneur (Innovative thinking competences for Creative Art entrepreneurship) has created an open-access online course on entrepreneurship addressed to creative arts faculties to train students and teachers in the acquisition and validation of entrepreneurial skills adapted to their specific needs.
You can find the course and all the other project material in the results section.
What have we done?
- An innovative methodology supported by SYSTEM DYNAMICS, the study and analysis of dynamic feedback systems using computer simulation.
- A modular ENTREPRENEURSHIP CURRICULUM. The curriculum’s teaching & learning materials were embedded into the system dynamics models that simulate the business cases/topics.
- The adaptation & improvement of an EPORTFOLIO so that creative arts students can collect and show evidence of their entrepreneurial skills, in accordance with the EntreComp Framework of the European Union.
Why?
- It remains difficult for the cultural and creative industries to find creative arts graduates with a mix of creative and entrepreneurial skills.
- They need people who have business competences, who can mobilise financing opportunities, who understand ICT.
- When launching a product or service, creative arts entrepreneurs are sometimes excessively concentrated on the functional features of their new idea and not so much on the business approach.
- There’s a lack of innovative entrepreneurship education adapted to the needs of creative arts graduates.
- The 3-ECTS course was developed by European University Cyprus and Universidade Aberta, with the contributions of the SMEs (Media Deals and MyDocumenta) in the development of business cases.
- International University of Catalona developed a methodological guide for teachers.
- MyDocumenta developed a specific eportfolio for the project that allows assessing the acquisition of entrepreneurial skills.
- A group of experts from the creative & cultural industry reviewed the material.
- Teachers were trained in a staff training in Valencia, and in local trainings at each university.
- The course was implemented in a pilot at the 4 universities, in Cyprus (European University Cyprus), Spain (Universitat Politècnica Valencia, International University of Catalonia), and Portugal (Universidade Aberta).
- Students and teachers gave their feedback and the results were analysed.
- The course, methodological guide and eportfolio were adapted, translated, and made publicly available.
How did we do it?
What’s different about this course?
- The innovative methodology of system dynamics teaches students how to analyse complex systems.
- This new dynamic and flexible thinking helps students to be more prepared for the current business and industry demands.
- The course was developed by universities and industries and is therefore both close to art students and to the market.
- The international collaboration, with different types of universities, led to a flexible, modular, format, which can easily be adapted to online or face-to-face teaching.
- It is a competence-based course, following the EU Framework of Entrepreneurial skills, EntreComp.
